Driving End-to-End Supply Chain Innovation: 2010 to Present
In January 2010, JDA Software finalized the acquisition of i2 Technologies. This exciting milestone solidifies JDA’s position as the world’s leading provider of innovative supply chain management and pricing excellence solutions, serving a combined customer base of more than 6,000 companies of all sizes in the process and discrete manufacturing, wholesale distribution, retail and services industries.
The addition of i2 doubles JDA’s market for advanced planning and optimization solutions across all targeted manufacturing vertical, strengthens JDA’s presence in transportation and increases traction in Tier 1 and Tier 2 markets. By bringing together the best solutions, services and the most dedicated supply chain experts in the industry, JDA can accelerate innovation and deliver even greater value to its current and future customers.
Enabling the Consumer-Driven Supply Chain: 2006-2009
With the acquisition of Manugistics in July 2006, JDA gained additional capabilities in providing supply and demand management, pricing and transportation and logistics solutions. These capabilities also enabled JDA to rethink the traditional view of how to optimally supply goods to the consumer. JDA emerged as a market leader uniquely positioned to help companies become more consumer-driven while also optimally planning various aspects of their businesses – from raw materials acquisition, through manufacturing and replenishment to the store shelf.
JDA’s unbeatable combination of advanced optimization and execution solutions continue to deliver clearly differentiated expertise and compelling innovation. What’s more, JDA’s solutions provide insight into consumer behaviors and patterns, enabling proactive action as changes occur.
JDA’s extensive customer base consistently demonstrates its loyalty by extending investment in JDA solutions and services. In fact, existing JDA customers represent more than 65 percent of software license sales each quarter – a true testament to the real supply chain results that JDA repeatedly delivers.
Expanding into New Markets – Consumer Goods and Wholesale Distribution: 2000-2005
Building upon its heritage in retail systems, JDA initiated a strategic plan in 2000 to provide solutions for consumer goods manufacturers and wholesaler-distributors. This initiative launched a period of aggressive acquisition activity during which JDA successfully finalized eight acquisitions. Two of these acquisitions in particular enabled JDA to diversify its revenue base, expand its product offering and boost market leadership with companies outside of retail. These acquisitions included:
- April 2000: Intactix, the market-leading provider of space management solutions for retailers, suppliers and manufacturers, adding more than 3,000 customers worldwide to JDA’s customer base
- September 2001: E3 Corporation, the global leader of inventory optimization systems, adding 550 customers in retail and wholesale distribution in 20 countries to JDA’s customer base
During these years JDA also innovated and expanded its Store Systems offering with the addition of workforce management software and a Java-based point-of-sale application. Additionally, JDA established its revenue management suite by acquiring applications for advertising, marketing and promotion management along with trade funds management. Another key acquisition during this period enabled JDA to offer advanced optimization and data-mining applications.
Going Public and Setting Growth Strategy: 1996-1999
After 10 successful years as a privately held firm, JDA became a public corporation on March 15, 1996. JDA also repurchased the original Canadian "JDA" company in 1996 and reestablished its presence in Canada.
With the financial freedom to strategically expand its solution offering, JDA looked externally for complementary, high-value solutions. JDA completed its first major acquisition in 1998, Arthur Retail, which established the growing company as the market leader in advanced planning and allocation software, adding approximately 240 loyal companies to JDA’s customer base.
The Beginning – A Canadian Entrepreneur in Retail Software: 1978-1995
In 1978, James D. Armstrong formed JDA Software Services in Calgary, Alberta, which grew to be one of Canada’s largest IBM mid-range software providers. The Canadian JDA business was sold in 1985, and Armstrong along with a partner formed the U.S.-based JDA Software, Inc. in Cleveland, Ohio. The company delivered quality packaged software and consulting services that addressed the retail industry’s information management and transaction processing needs. After signing a substantial contract with a Phoenix-based automotive retailer in 1987, all eight JDA employees relocated to the new corporate headquarters in Arizona, where JDA has grown to its current position as the world’s leading provider of innovative supply chain management and pricing excellence solutions.
