Understanding a product’s repeatable seasonal pattern is critical to interpreting historical sales and subsequently generating an accurate forecast of future demand. Achieving optimized replenishment requires accurate seasonal profiles coupled with strategic analysis. In order to follow sound forecasting practices, you must have a clear-cut representation of the selling curve for the year, for a product and for a location. Without such profiles, your forecast could confuse the elevated levels of business that might occur during the holiday season, for example, with a high growth trend, and then accelerate the receipt of products to unrealistic levels in January.
