JDA Master Planning helps companies determine the best time and place to make the product to meet consumer demand. The solution allows consumer goods firms to manage production across multiple sites efficiently in response to changing consumer demand. Master Planning makes sourcing decisions and plant loading decisions that determine how product flows throughout the network and where products should optimally be produced. The solution determines if and when overtime shifts are needed and when they should be employed. It also determines the optimal product run lengths required to support the best pre-build strategy.
Users of JDA Master Planning, after determining overall manufacturing requirements based on a reconciliation of existing orders and the demand forecast, generate a multi-site manufacturing plan. The multi-site plan contains optimal decisions for:
- How products should be sourced throughout the network (that is, how materials, work in progress (WIP), and finished goods should flow from one facility to another)
- Which products should be made in which facilities
- Lengths of production runs required to meet pre-build requirements
- If and when overtime shifts should be used to satisfy production needs
Flexible scenario analysis capabilities allow users to review the plan and then run multiple ’what-if’ scenarios on the plan. Once these scenarios have been analyzed and run, the final plan is determined. At this point, the plan is published and sent to the factory scheduling department for execution.
